Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

The candidate must hold a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university, or any equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government, as on 30 September 2026. Candidates in the final year or final semester of graduation can also apply provisionally.

If they are called for an interview, they must show proof of passing the graduation exam on or before 30 September 2026. Candidates with qualifications such as Medical, Engineering, Chartered Accountant, or Cost Accountant are also eligible.

Age Limit (as of 01 April 2026)

The candidate must be not below 21 years and not above 30 years as on 1 April 2026. This means the candidate should have been born not earlier than 2 April 1996 and not later than 1 April 2005, both days included. Upper age relaxation is given as follows.

Exam Pattern

Phase I: Preliminary Examination

The Preliminary Examination is an online objective test of 100 marks with three sections. Each section has its own time of 20 minutes, and the total time is 1 hour.

There is no sectional cut-off in the Preliminary Examination. Candidates numbering about 10 times the vacancies in each category will be shortlisted for the Main Examination.

Phase-II: Main Examination

The Main Examination has an Objective Test of 200 marks and a Descriptive Test of 30 marks. The Descriptive Test is held right after the Objective Test, and candidates type their answers on the computer.

The Descriptive Test covers Communication Skills, which includes an Email, a Situation Analysis, and either Report Writing or Precis Writing. There is a penalty for wrong answers in the objective tests of both the Preliminary and Main Examination, where one-fourth of the marks for that question is deducted.

Selection Process

The selection for SBI PO 2026 is done in three phases. Candidates must qualify for each phase to move forward. The process is as follows.

  • Phase-I Preliminary Examination is an online objective test of 100 marks, used only for shortlisting
  • Phase-II Main Examination has an objective test of 200 marks and a descriptive test of 30 marks, with a sectional cut-off in each test
  • Phase III has a Psychometric Test, a Group Exercise of 20 marks, and an Interview of 30 marks, making a total of 50 marks
  • The final merit is prepared by adding the normalised marks of Phase-II, which are out of 75, and Phase-III, which are out of 25, to make a total of 100
  • The marks of the Preliminary Examination are not added to the final merit list
  • In case of a tie at the cut-off, candidates are ranked by age in descending order, with the older candidate placed higher

SBI PO 2026 Salary

The starting basic pay for an SBI Probationary Officer is Rs. 48,480 per month, along with 4 advance increments, in the pay scale of 48480 to 85920 under Junior Management Grade Scale-I. Apart from the basic pay, the officer is eligible for Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, City Compensatory Allowance, Provident Fund, NPS, Leave Fare Concession, Medical Facility, Lease Rental Facility, and other allowances as per rules. The approximate total cost to the company (CTC) at the Mumbai centre is about Rs. 21.97 lakh per year.

Note: Selected candidates will be on probation for two years. They must sign a bond of Rs. 2 lakh to serve the Bank for a minimum of three years from the date of joining.

Candidates can apply online only from 18 June 2026 to 8 July 2026. No other mode of application will be accepted. Follow the steps below carefully.

  1. Visit the official website sbi.bank.in and open the Current Openings section
  2. Click on the advertisement for Recruitment of Probationary Officers (CRPD/PO/2026-27/09)
  3. Register using a valid email ID and mobile number, then note down your registration number and password
  4. Fill in the online application form with your personal and educational details
  5. Upload your scanned photograph, signature, left-hand thumb impression, and handwritten declaration in the prescribed format, and capture your live photograph
  6. Pay the application fee online through Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI
  7. Check all details carefully, submit the form, and take a printout of the e-receipt and application form

Documents Required

Keep the following ready before you start the application. The images must be clear and in the correct size, as the application will not register without them.

  • Scanned colour photograph in JPG or JPEG format (size 20 KB to 50 KB)
  • Scanned signature in JPG or JPEG format (size 10 KB to 20 KB), signed in black ink, not in capital letters
  • Scanned left-hand thumb impression in JPG or JPEG format (size 20 KB to 50 KB)
  • Scanned handwritten declaration in English in JPG or JPEG format (size 50 KB to 100 KB)
  • A live photograph captured through a webcam or a mobile during registration
  • A valid email ID and an active mobile number to keep working till the result
  • Graduation certificate, caste certificate, EWS or PwBD certificate as applicable, for verification at a later stage.

Exam Centres

The examinations will be held online at centres across India. Candidates can choose their preferred centre during the application, but the final centre is allotted by SBI. The centres for the Main Examination will be limited. No request for a change of centre, date, or session will be accepted. Important Instructions

  • Only one application is allowed per candidate. If more than one application is submitted, only the last valid one is kept, and the fee for the others is forfeited
  • The category once chosen at registration cannot be changed at any stage
  • A valid Aadhaar card is advised, as SBI will conduct online Aadhaar verification at different stages
  • Mobile phones, smart watches, and any electronic devices are strictly banned at the exam centre
  • Biometric details such as a photo, thumb impression, or IRIS scan will be captured for verification
  • Candidates must carry a valid photo ID proof and the call letter to the exam centre
