SSC CGL Recruitment 2026 Notification Out: 12,256 Posts, Apply Online

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the official notification for the Combined Graduate Level Examination 2026 on May 21, 2026. A total of 12,256 tentative vacancies have been announced for various Group B and Group C posts across central government ministries, departments, and organisations. The online application window is now open at ssc.gov.in.

This recruitment is open to all Indian graduates within the eligible age limit. Posts are spread across top government offices such as the CBI, the Income Tax Department, the Directorate of Enforcement, India Post, and many more. Both men and women are encouraged to apply.

Eligible candidates can submit their online application form from May 21, 2026, to June 22, 2026 (up to 11:00 PM). The last date for fee payment is June 23, 2026. A correction window will also be open from June 29 to July 1, 2026, in case any changes are needed after form submission.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised university or equivalent in any discipline to apply for most posts. Final year students can also apply, but they must complete their graduation by August 1, 2026.

Some posts have specific qualification requirements:

• Assistant Audit Officer / Assistant Accounts Officer: Bachelor’s Degree (Essential). Desirable: CA, CMA, CS, M.Com, MBA, or M.B.S.
• Junior Statistical Officer (JSO): Bachelor’s Degree with Statistics as a subject in Class 12, OR a Bachelor’s Degree with Statistics at the degree level.
• Statistical Investigator Grade-II: Bachelor’s Degree with Statistics as one of the subjects.
• All other posts: Any Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised university.

Selection Process

SSC CGL 2026 selects candidates through two main exam stages, followed by document verification. There is no interview for any post. Your final rank is based entirely on your Tier-II score.

1. Tier-I: Computer Based Examination (Qualifying): All candidates appear for Tier-I. This stage is qualifying; it does not count in your final merit. It tests General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Language. Important change for 2026: SSC has introduced sectional timing in Tier-I, meaning each section has its own fixed time limit.
2. Tier-II: Computer Based Examination (Merit-Based): Only candidates who qualify Tier-I appear for Tier-II. Your final rank is based on Tier-II marks. It has three papers: Paper I is compulsory for all posts. Paper II is only for JSO (Junior Statistical Officer) candidates. Paper III is only for AAO (Assistant Audit Officer) and AAcO candidates. Tier-II also has sectional timing in 2026.
3. Document Verification: After Tier-II results, shortlisted candidates are called for document verification by the concerned user department. You must bring all original certificates.
4. Physical / Medical Test (Selected posts only): Posts such as Sub Inspector (CBI, NIA), Inspector (Central Excise, Preventive Officer, Examiner), and UDC/SSA in BRO require physical standards and medical tests. These are conducted by the respective departments after final selection, not by SSC.

Salary / Pay Scale

Selected candidates receive a salary as per the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix. In addition to basic pay, central government employees also get Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA), and other perks. The in-hand salary will be higher depending on the city of posting.

💡 The Assistant Audit Officer (Pay Level 8) and Inspector of Income Tax (Pay Level 7) are the most sought-after posts in SSC CGL due to their higher pay scale and job profile.

How to Apply for SSC CGL 2026

Follow these 8 steps to submit your SSC CGL 2026 online application form:

1. Go to the official SSC website: ssc.gov.in
2. Complete your One Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website if you have not done it already. OTR is mandatory for all candidates before applying.
3. Log in with your OTR credentials and open the SSC CGL 2026 Apply Online link.
4. Fill in your personal details, educational qualifications, post preferences, and exam centre choices carefully.
5. Complete the live photograph capture through the application module. Make sure you are in a well-lit area with a plain background.
6. Upload your signature in the prescribed format as mentioned in the notification.
7. Pay the application fee of ₹100 online if applicable. Women, SC/ST, PwBD, and ESM candidates do not need to pay.
8. Review all details using the Preview option before final submission. Submit the form and save or print the confirmation page, which you will need throughout the recruitment process.

💡 Made a mistake? Use the correction window from June 29 to July 1, 2026, to fix it. The correction fee is ₹200 for the first edit and ₹500 for the second edit.

SSC CGL 2026 Exam Centres

The SSC CGL 2026 examination will be conducted across multiple regions and cities in India. Candidates must select their preferred exam centre during the application process. The final centre allotment is done by SSC and may differ from the preference submitted.

⚠️ The exam centre preference submitted during the application cannot be changed after the correction window closes. Choose your centre carefully. SSC does not entertain centre change requests after that.

Important Instructions for SSC CGL 2026 Candidates

• Online applications only: SSC does not accept offline or postal applications. The entire process from registration to fee payment must be done at ssc.gov.in.
• OTR is mandatory: One Time Registration must be completed before applying. Your OTR profile details (name, date of birth, category) cannot be changed after submission.
• Live photograph capture: SSC requires a live photograph taken through the application module. Make sure you are in a well-lit area with a plain background.
• Aadhaar authentication strongly recommended: Aadhaar-based verification is advised for smooth processing. Make sure your Aadhaar details match your other documents.
• Reservation claims must be accurate: Wrong or fraudulent reservation claims will lead to cancellation of candidature at any stage of the process.
• Final allotment is merit-cum-preference: Post and department allotment is done based on your Tier-II rank and the post preferences you submit. Higher rank = better choice.
• No re-evaluation of answer sheets: SSC does not provide re-checking or re-evaluation of Tier-I or Tier-II answer sheets under any circumstances.
